Dr. Michael Moussa Returns to Cleveland to Care for the Community That Gave His Family Its Start

Dr. Moussa joins The Eye Centers, bringing a personal approach to advanced cataract care and LASIK.

 

More than four decades ago, Dr. Michael Moussa’s father arrived in Cleveland from Damascus at just 18 years old, with little more than the money in his pocket and a determination to build a life in a new country.

He worked grueling hours in restaurants — sometimes 100 hours a week — as his family established roots in Northeast Ohio.

“Watching my parents sacrifice everything instilled in me a deep sense of gratitude, humility and service,” Dr. Moussa said. “It taught me that what we’re given isn’t meant to be kept, but multiplied to lift others up.”

That lesson eventually led Dr. Moussa to medicine — and now back to Cleveland, where his family’s American story began. Dr. Moussa recently joined The Eye Centers’ team of ophthalmologists and optometrists, providing comprehensive adult eye care with a focus on advanced cataract surgery and LASIK.

For more than 45 years, The Eye Centers has cared for generations of Greater Cleveland families. Today, the practice combines that neighborhood approach with advanced medical and surgical eye care across four locations in Fairview Park, Middleburg Heights, Lakewood and Avon, with an outpatient surgery center in Fairview Park.

For Dr. Moussa, that combination was exactly what he was looking for.

“Returning here to practice feels like coming full circle,” Dr. Moussa said. “I wanted to plant deep roots in a practice that genuinely values community and patient-first care over volume.”

Advanced Care, Close to Home

 

Dr. Moussa believes patients shouldn’t have to choose between personal care close to home and access to advanced eye-care technology.

His connection to LASIK is personal: Dr. Moussa underwent the procedure himself in 2024 and has been glasses-free ever since.

“It was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made,” he said.

Technology, however, is only part of the equation.

“I don’t believe in conveyor-belt medicine or one-size-fits-all treatments,” Dr. Moussa said.“I see my role as an educator and a guide.”

His approach starts with understanding each patient’s lifestyle, concerns and vision goals, then helping them understand their options and choose a treatment plan that fits.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Moussa spends much of his time with his wife and young son, exploring local parks, staying connected to their church community and enjoying their family’s Mediterranean traditions and cuisine.

Now, more than 40 years after his father first arrived in Cleveland, Dr. Moussa is beginning his own chapter here — caring for the community that gave his family its start.
