OVI Suspect Claims She Had ‘A Little’ to Drink, Westlake Police Report

On the evening of October 25, Westlake police officers encountered a Ford Bronco exhibiting erratic driving behavior, which led to a traffic stop and subsequent investigation for operating a vehicle under the influence (OVI). An officer noticed the vehicle halted at a green light, prompting initial concern. As the officer continued to observe, the Bronco swerved multiple times, crossing lane lines and narrowly avoiding contact with a curb.

Upon approaching the driver, identified as a 40-year-old woman, the officer detected signs of impairment. When questioned about her alcohol consumption, she admitted to having “a little” to drink earlier in the day. This statement raised further concerns for the officer, who proceeded to conduct field sobriety tests.

The driver struggled to complete the tests successfully, which indicated a level of impairment. Following the assessment, she was arrested for OVI and later transported to the Westlake police station, where she was booked. The incident underscores the importance of safe driving and the risks associated with alcohol consumption.

In another incident, a resident reported a theft involving a catalytic converter, a common target for thieves due to their valuable metal components. The theft occurred overnight in a residential area, and the victim informed authorities that the converter had been removed from their vehicle without permission. Police are currently investigating the case, urging residents to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity in their neighborhoods.

Additionally, officers responded to a call about a disturbance in a local park. Upon arrival, they found a group of individuals engaged in a loud argument. Officers intervened, dispersing the crowd and reminding those involved of the importance of maintaining peace in public spaces. No arrests were made in this instance, but the police emphasized their commitment to keeping local parks safe for enjoyment by all residents.

The Westlake Police Department continues to encourage citizens to report any suspicious behavior or concerns to help maintain the safety and well-being of the community. The department also reminds residents of the dangers of impaired driving, advocating for responsible choices when consuming alcohol. As the holiday season approaches, increased awareness and preventative measures can help ensure safer roadways for everyone.
