UN Peacekeeping Chief Stresses Importance of Transition in Lebanon Ahead of Withdrawal

The head of the United Nations peacekeeping force in Lebanon has emphasized the necessity of a smooth transition before the planned withdrawal of troops at the end of this year. Major General Diodato Abagnara, who leads the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), highlighted the critical role that other UN agencies and Lebanese armed forces must play in taking over responsibilities currently held by the peacekeeping force.
