For the second week in a row, the weekly number of COVID-19 cases in Ohio has dropped.
The state of Ohio on Thursday reported 26,016 new cases of COVID-19 in its weekly dashboard update, down 1,769 from a week ago.
Ohio has been over 10,000 cases per week every week since the beginning of May. Cases had been rising steadily since mid-June, peaking for the summer two weeks ago at 29,876. The numbers began dropping last week and the trend seems to be continuing.
This week’s case total averages to about 3,716 cases per day over seven days. That’s lower than last week by about 253 cases per day.
Total reported COVID-19 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic were 39,220.
The total COVID-19 case count since early 2020 has now reached 3,002,043.
A total of 7,428,582 Ohioans have received at least one vaccination, representing about 63% of Ohioans.
Since the beginning of 2021, there have been 24,280 deaths among people reported as unvaccinated, and 1,319 among people reported to be fully vaccinated. And there have been 73,586 hospitalized Ohioans who were not fully vaccinated, and 5,317 fully vaccinated people hospitalized.
The state does not report for COVID-19 cases whether people were vaccinated.
The total cases being reported recently likely are understated, as some people do not report at-home tests and others may not be testing at all.
