AKRON, Ohio — A man convicted of shooting two women in 2021, one of them the gunman’s sister, was sentenced Thursday to 12 to 15 years in prison.
Summit County Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh says prosecutors sought a 22-year sentence for Marcellars Miller, 28, of Barberton, who was convicted last month of attempted murder, two counts of felonious assault, and having a weapon under disability.
Police say that on March 21, 2021, Miller was with his mother, sister, and a family friend at a birthday party in the area of Courtland and Hartford avenues in Akron. During an argument, Miller pulled a gun and threatened to shoot his sister and the family friend.
As Miller’s sister and friend tried to drive away, Miller shot several times at the car. The driver had a bullet lodged in her lung. Miller’s sister suffered a minor injury.
