The headlines
Expelling Householder: While both Republicans and Democrats have introduced resolutions to expel indicted state Rep. Larry Householder from the Ohio House, so far there’s no sign when or if either measure might pass. Jeremy Pelzer reports that the resolutions – which, so far, haven’t been assigned numbers – are the first formal measures to remove Householder, a Perry County Republican arrested last year and charged with overseeing a $60 million bribery scheme to secure the passage of the House Bill 6 energy law.
Income tax: The Ohio House of Representatives on Wednesday approved legislation that allows companies to continue withholding municipal income taxes as they have under a coronavirus emergency law, but only through the rest of 2021 and on a voluntary basis. Peter Krouse reports the bill makes it possible for employees to seek refunds for 2021 and requires companies to start withholding taxes based on where employees actually do their work starting in 2022.
Woodhill Homes: The Department of Housing and Urban Development awarded a $35 million grant to Cleveland and the Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority to demolish and replace Woodhill Homes, reports Eric Heisig. The plans involve trying to connect what has historically been an isolated East Side neighborhood with a high crime rate to the rest of the city, and in the process improve the lives of residents.

Biden in CLE: President Joe Biden will visit Cuyahoga Community College in Cleveland today to deliver a speech on the economy that aims to “make a clear case that his economic plan is working.” Sabrina Eaton reports Biden will discuss why “now is the right moment” for workers in places like Cleveland to pass his “Building Back Better” infrastructure and families proposals, which his deputy press secretary said would make “historic generational investments … that will create good paying union jobs, expand economic opportunities for all Americans and help us out-compete the rest of the world in the 21st century.”
Colds: Cold viruses have been held at bay during months of mask wearing and social distancing. Julie Washington reports that we’re looking at a summer doomed with fevers and sniffles as we give viruses opportunities to spread.
This Week in the CLE: U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan bills his upcoming memoir as an inside look at the detailed investigations he’s conducted in Congress and Donald Trump’s win in 2016.
