A former U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer is facing multiple federal charges after he was accused of sexually assaulting immigrants while he was working for ICE.
Andrew Golobic, 51, who reportedly lives in Cincinnati and Mason, Ohio, was arrested Wednesday by federal agents, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Ohio. He has been indicted on seven charges, including sex trafficking by means of force, fraud or coercion; depriving individuals of their civil rights while acting under color of law; tampering with witnesses; and obstructing a federal investigation.
Prosecutors say Golobic sexually assaulted at least two females under his supervision in the Alternatives to Detention (ATD) program. The program allows asylum seekers and other immigrants considered by ICE to be low-risk to remain in their communities while their cases were pending.
According to Fox 19, Golobic is accused of kidnapping and sexually victims over a two-year period. He also is accused of attempting to delete incriminating information on his cellphone.
Golobic was a deportation officer with ICE from 2006 to 2020 and was assigned to an office in Blue Ash, Ohio. He worked with the ATD program from 2015 to 2020, where he supervised immigrants with vulnerable backgrounds, including those fleeing violence, exploitation and sexual assault.
Prosecutors say Golobic “was given discretion over the degree of freedom and movement afforded to participants under his supervision. He had the authority to decide the type of monitoring, frequency of reporting and level of supervision, as well as the authority to recommend that ATD participants who violated conditions of the program be detained or deported.”
If convicted, Golobic would face a maximum sentence of life in prison.
