A 3-year-old girl was killed Monday afternoon when she was struck by a vehicle in a parking lot in the East Akron neighborhood.
The incident occurred at about 2:12 p.m. on the 1100 block of Palmetto Avenue, police say. The 3-year-old girl ran into the path of a Honda CRV that was driven by a 42-year-old woman and was hit, knocking the girl to the ground.
The driver of the CRV was not aware she hit the child, according to police. The girl was taken to Akron Children’s Hospital but she died of her injuries.
Speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the incident, which remains under investigation.
