Local Photographer Organizes Special Photo Session for Veterans
In a heartfelt initiative to honor local veterans, Berea photographer Amanda Lott, alongside Ward 2 Councilman Michael Kurtz, Councilman-at-large Chris McManis, and members of the American Legion Auxiliary, hosted a unique photo session on June 18. This event took place at the American Legion Post 91, providing veterans with the opportunity to have professional portraits taken at no cost.
The event aimed to celebrate and recognize the sacrifices made by veterans in the community, creating lasting memories for them and their families. Lott, who has been a photographer for several years, expressed her commitment to giving back to those who have served. “It’s an honor to provide these veterans with a way to commemorate their service,” she stated. “We want them to feel appreciated and seen.”
Veterans from various branches of the military came together for the occasion, some bringing family members along to share in the experience. The atmosphere was filled with camaraderie and gratitude, as attendees mingled and shared stories of their time in service. The portraits captured not only the individuals’ likenesses but also the spirit of community and respect that filled the room.
Councilman Kurtz emphasized the importance of honoring veterans, remarking, “This is a small way we can show our appreciation for their service. It’s vital that we support our local heroes and ensure they know they are valued.” Councilman McManis added that events like these foster a stronger bond within the community, allowing residents to come together in support of a common cause.
The collaboration with the American Legion Auxiliary proved essential in organizing the event, providing volunteers who helped with logistics and ensuring everything ran smoothly. The auxiliary members were thrilled to participate, stating that it was a meaningful way to connect with veterans and give back to the community.
Feedback from the veterans who attended has been overwhelmingly positive. Many expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to have high-quality photographs taken, which they could cherish for years to come. “This means a lot to me,” said one veteran, who was visibly moved by the experience. “It’s nice to know that people care and want to honor us.”
As the event concluded, Lott and the council members reflected on the day’s success and the impact it had on the veterans. Plans for future events are already in the works, with hopes to continue providing support and recognition for local veterans. The initiative serves as a reminder of the importance of community engagement and the ongoing need to honor those who have dedicated their lives to serving the nation.
