The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office released the identity of a man who was shot by a Maple Heights police officer Monday on Cleveland’s East Side.
Datwaun Catchings, 22, of Cleveland was shot about 4:17 a.m. during a pursuit that began in Maple Heights and ended in Cleveland on East 93rd Street and Buckeye Road, police said.
Catchings was transported to University Hospitals, where he was later pronounced dead.
Police did not release the name of the officer or the series of events that led up to the shooting. No officers were injured.
A firearm was recovered at the scene, according to police.
Cleveland’s use of force unit is handling the investigation.
An investigation by police revealed that officers in Maple Heights pursued Catchings because they believed the vehicle he was driving was involved in incidents where shots were being fired into homes.
