Three emergency workers were injured early Tuesday morning when their medical helicopter crashed while responding to a fatal vehicle crash in Southwest Ohio.
A news release from the Butler County Sheriff’s Office says none of the injuries to the CareFlight helicopter’s crew members were life-threatening, but they were taken to a hospital for treatment. It’s unknown what caused the helicopter to crash as it attempted to land at the scene just before 5 a.m.
The helicopter was responding to a two-vehicle crash that killed at 69-year-old Indiana woman and seriously injured a 43-year-old woman. The sheriff’s office says a 1998 Chevrolet Silverado pulled into an intersection and was struck by a 2013 GMC Sierra.
The Indiana woman, who was a passenger in the back seat of the Silverado, was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene. The injured woman was a passenger in the front seat of the Silverado and rescuers had to cut apart the vehicle in order to remove her.
Two other people in the Silverado had minor injuries, while the sole occupant of the Sierra was not injured.
The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the helicopter crash, the sheriff’s office says.
