Both local and widespread scams have been claiming victims for years, continuing to increase and change as technology and other factors evolve.
To combat this, the Medina County Office of Older Adults and the Medina County Prosecutor’s Office have worked together to create the Medina County Scam Squad.
The Scam Squad will be a financial fraud task force within the county that works to unite social service agencies, nonprofits and local, state and federal law enforcement to fight against scams, according to a recent press release.
The Scam Squad features a toll-free number that all victims or potential victims of scams within Medina County can call to receive advice and support. The hotline will connect callers to the agencies that could best help them and investigate.
The number is 1-877-SCAM550 (1-877-722-6550).
