Ohio’s casinos and racinos took in $206.7 million in gambling revenue in July, just short of a record they set in 2021, but well ahead of pre-pandemic figures.
Combined, the 11 facilities’ revenue was 2% short of the $211.2 million during July 2021. But revenue is up 27% compared to July 2019′s total of $162.2 million.
Casinos and racinos broke records just about everymonth coming out of the pandemic when COVID-19 related closures and curfews didn’t affect them. The last few months, revenue has been down when compared to 2021′s record months, but still well ahead of 2019.
So far in 2022, the four casinos and seven racinos have taken in $1.38 billion in gambling revenue, compared to $1.36 billion this time last year. The gambling revenue is what the casinos and racinos make after paying out winnings, but before taxes. About one-third of this money is forwarded to the state in the form of taxes or fees.
Gambling revenue was at $669 million at this time in 2020, since the casinos were closed in for several weeks. Gambling revenue was at $1.13 billion through July 2019.
In the Cleveland/Akron market last month:
* MGM Northfield Park had revenue of $25.3 million, up 2.2% from $24.8 million in July 2021. Revenue was $21.2 million for July 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic.
* JACK Cleveland Casino had revenue of $22.9 million, down 3.1% from $23.6 million. Revenue was $17.1 million in 2019.
* JACK Thistledown Racino had revenue of $15.8 million, down 13.5% from $18.3 million. Revenue was $12.3 million in 2019.
