CLEVELAND, Ohio — The state of Ohio on Tuesday reported 4,385 new cases of COVID-19, bouncing above 3,000 after three consecutive days of case counts under that mark.
Ohio’s daily case count has been under 10,000 every day since Jan. 27, and was under 3,000 on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
The total COVID-19 case count since early 2020 has now reached 2,617,104, meaning about 1-in-4 Ohioans has contracted the virus.
Ohio’s death toll since the beginning of the pandemic now stands at 34,592, up 375 with Tuesday’s report. COVID-19 deaths are reported twice a week, on Tuesdays and Fridays, though often the deaths being reported are weeks old.
A total of 7,182,881 Ohioans have received at least one vaccination, representing about 65.3% of Ohioans age 5 and up.
Since the beginning of 2021, there have been 17,996 deaths among people reported as unvaccinated, and 872 among people reported to be fully vaccinated. And there have been 58,688 hospitalized Ohioans who were not fully vaccinated, and 3,618 fully vaccinated people hospitalized. Updates are normally provided each Thursday but had been delayed since Jan. 19. On Wednesday, the update through Jan. 26 was listed.
The state does not report for COVID-19 cases whether people were vaccinated.
The total cases being reported recently likely are understated, as some people do not report at-home tests and others may not be testing at all.
