KANSAS, Ohio — A member of a school board in southwest Ohio is refusing calls to resign after she posted a link to a pornography site in a post on her campaign’s Facebook page.
Although Darbi Boddy says the link was an accident because of a typo, other members of the Lakota Local Schools Board of Education held a meeting Wednesday night in which they voted unanimously to censure her and ask for her immediate resignation, WLWT Channel 5 reports.
Boddy said she will not resign and tells WCPO Channel 9 that she believes Wednesday’s meeting was “a circus.” Boddy reportedly walked out of the meeting in protest.
In the post on her Facebook page, Boddy complains about the board possibly hiring a company to review the district’s curriculum and topics she believes are being taught in the schools. A link intended to go to a website about sex education in schools contained an extra letter and instead went to a porn site, Fox 19 reports. The link has since been corrected.
“To post pornographic content on an official, public-facing school board member account that can be accessed by many of our own students is absolutely unacceptable,” board President Lynda O’Connor said during Wednesday’s meeting, according to Fox 19. “Furthermore, to make a public accusation that our curriculum contains such pornographic material is deplorable.”
Reports say Boddy has had previous clashes with other board members and the district’s superintendent since she began serving her term in January. O’Connor accused Boddy of misrepresenting what’s being taught in schools and of making false statements about how the board conducts business.
Despite calling for Boddy’s resignation, the board cannot remove her, Fox 19 reports. But O’Connor said Boddy showed “gross negligence” and “reckless conduct” by linking to the porn site, even if it was an accident, WCPO reports.
