WILLOUGHBY, Ohio — A man who crashed into a parked car, injuring a woman inside, was caught early Thursday morning after initially managing to elude police.
Officers in Willoughby were called to the 4000 block of Erie Street downtown just before 2 a.m. after red Dodge pickup hit a parked Jeep Latitude, according to Willoughby police. Both vehicles ended up crashing into a large plate-glass window in front of BMA Media.
Police saw the truck leave the scene and begin driving east on Mentor Avenue into Mentor. The owner of the truck, a 22-year-old male, lives in Mentor, police say.
Mentor officers went to the owner’s residence and spotted the pickup truck in the driveway. Police say the owner then ran from the home into a wooded area. Officers searching the area were unable to find the suspect.
However, an officer in Willoughby spotted the suspect several hours later walking in the city, police say. He was taken into custody without incident and then taken to LakeWest Hospital for treatment. The identity of the suspect has not been released. Charges are pending and alcohol is a suspected factor, police say.
The owner of the Jeep, a 26-year-old woman, was taken to LakeWest Hospital for treatment of facial injuries, according to police.
