A police officer was suspended in May after she admitted using a racial slur while on duty, the second Cincinnati officer to face accusations of using racial language in recent weeks.
Officer Kelly Drach reportedly used the slur toward a caller while working in the Real Time Crime Center in November 2021.
According to the Cincinnati Enquirer, a report from an internal investigation shows that Drach became upset with a telemarketer, saying, “You’re taking advantage of old people, you’re criminals,” then yelled “Sand n*****!”
Another officer overheard Drach use the slur and confronted her, the report shows. Drach reportedly apologized, but the other officer thought the apology was “insincere,” Fox 19 reports.
Drach was overheard using the slur again less than two weeks later after she again received a call from a telemarketer, reports say. After the incident, the Enquirer reports an anonymous letter was sent to Cincinnati’s human resources department.
Channe 9 reports that Drach did not deny using the slur during an internal investigation. It was ruled she was in violation of the Cincinnati Police Department’s code of conduct. She was suspended for seven days in May for “failure of good behavior.”
Drach reportedly told investigators she was “remorseful” for using the slur and blamed her behavior to “a tremendous amount of stress in her personal life.”
Another Cincinnati officer, Rose Valentino, recently was recorded on her body camera using a racial slur while stuck in traffic, the Enquirer reports. She has been suspended as she awaits a disciplinary hearing. The Enquirer reports Valentino has admitted to using the slurs.
