COLUMBUS, Ohio — A second Ohio State University student has died after a drug-related incident at a duplex on Lane Avenue, the university said Friday.
Officers responded late Wednesday to a duplex on Lane Avenue where three people appeared to be overdosing, police said.
The university announced on Thursday that one student had died. The second student was in critical condition Thursday but the university announced their death Friday. A third student was released from the hospital.
OSU President Kristina M. Johnson released the following statement Friday announcing the death of the second student:
It is with an incredibly heavy heart that I share that our second student who was hospitalized in critical condition has passed away. Every Buckeye loss is heartbreaking, and these tragic deaths in our community in such a short period of time are devastating.
Students in need of emotional support should not hesitate to reach out to the Office of Student Life’s Counseling and Consultation Service. The Employee Assistance Program offers support resources for Ohio State faculty and staff.
During this time, we ask you to remember all of our departed Buckeyes, their friends and families. Care and compassion are among our most treasured values — and they are never so needed than in times of grieving
While police did not say what caused the overdoses, the Office of Student Life sent out a message on Thursday warning students about fake Adderall pills. The message says that some of the fake pills appear to contain fentanyl, which is causing an increase in overdoses and hospitalizations. This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
