LAKEWOOD, Ohio — A Lakewood woman died in an early-morning crash Saturday, police said.
Josephine Sever, 55, died in the crash that happened about 1:30 a.m. on Cove Avenue at Clifton Boulevard, according to a news release from Lakewood police.
A man, who was driving in an SUV and was involved in the crash, was taken into police custody after the crash. Police say he possibly will face criminal charges.
Police got a call about a crash at the intersection of Cove Avenue and Clifton Boulevard.
Officers arrived and found a 2021 Mitsubishi Lancer and a 2019 Kia Sportage that had crashed into each other in the intersection, police said.
The Mitsubishi Lancer, driven by Sever was traveling south on Cove Avenue and stopped at the flashing red light at Clifton Boulevard, police said.
She attempted to cross over Clifton Boulevard, and was struck by the Kia Sportage, driven by the unidentified man, heading east.
Paramedics took Sever to MetroHealth where she died of her injuries, police said.
The man who was driving the Kia was taken to a local hospital where he is now in police custody.
Alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor in the crash, police said.
State Highway Patrol is assisting Lakewood police in the crash investigation.
