يخصص شهر يونيو/حزيران للاحتفاء بذوي الميول الجنسية المغايرة في كثير من الدول حول العالم.
وتشمل هذه المجموعة العديد من الفئات، هي المثليون باختلاف التوجهات ومزدوجو الميول والعابرون جنسيا والعابرات، وأي فئة أخرى من ذوي الميول الجنسية غير التقليدية.
والعلم الأشهر للمغايرين جنسيا هو علم قوس، الذي يرجع إلى سبعينيات القرن الماضي. لكن حدث كثير من التغييرات خلال الأعوام الخمسين الماضية، وشهدت الأعوام الأخيرة ظهور أعلام جديدة لتمثل التنوع والفئات المختلفة لذوي الميول المغايرة.
ومع شيوع استخدام مواقع مثل ريديت وتامبلر، تمكن الناس من العثور على من يشبهونهم في الميول والهويات، وخرجت من هذه المجموعات أفكار لأعلام جديدة لتمثل شتى الفئات.
وتقول بروك هويت، التي تحترف صناعة تيجان بألوان الأعلام المختلفة إنه “بسبب المدى الواسع والتنوع الكبير للهويات الجنسية، هناك فئات محدودة وأصغر في عدد أفرادها ليست لها نفس الحضور المجتمعي. لذا، فوجود الأعلام مهم لأنه يشعرهم بالتآلف والانتماء والهوية، وهو ما يسعى إليه كل الناس.”
