نبّهت دراسة حديثة إلى أن سياسات تحديد النسل التي تفرضها السلطات الصينية كفيلة بتقليص أعداد أقلية الإيغور المسلمة إلى الثلث في غضون 20 عاما.
وتوصلت دراسة تحليلية لباحث ألماني إلى أن تلك السياسات كفيلة بإحداث تراجُع يتراوح بين 2.6 إلى 4.5 مليون نسمة في معدلات مواليد أقلية الإيغور التي تسكن إقليم شينجيانغ جنوبي البلاد.
وتواجه الصين اتهامات غربية بارتكاب إبادة جماعية في شينجيانغ عبر عدد من الوسائل بينها تحديد النسل قسريا.
وتنكر الصين هذه الاتهامات، قائلة إن تراجُع معدلات المواليد يعود إلى أسباب أخرى
وتعدّ دراسة الألماني أدريان زينز، الأولى أكاديميا التي ترصد الأثر بعيد المدى لحملة السلطات الصينية على الإيغور والأقليات العرقية الأخرى في شينجيانغ على صعيد تعداد السكان.
