Kristin Kirkpatrick, a dietitian at the Cleveland Clinic, emphasized the importance of understanding food noise. “When the noise is less, individuals are less likely to consume foods that contribute to weight gain,” she explained. Kirkpatrick noted that food noise often intensifies around foods that are highly processed or addictive, such as candies, snacks, and fast food, and is distinct from regular feelings of hunger.

Many individuals taking GLP-1 medications report that the relief from food noise is as beneficial as the weight loss and blood sugar control these drugs offer. According to Michelle Routhenstein, a preventive cardiology dietitian, reducing food noise can also have positive effects beyond diet, including a decreased desire for alcohol and smoking, as GLP-1s may influence the brain’s reward pathways.

Establishing consistent meal timings can keep the body adequately fueled, thereby minimizing the drive for food that often accompanies deprivation.
